Helicopter Spins Out of Control into Palm Groves at Popular Southern California Shoreline
A chopper hovering near a popular southern California beach unexpectedly started spinning uncontrollably, eventually losing altitude and crashing into a cluster of palm trees as beachgoers watched.
Videos posted online capture the aircraft starting to spin near Huntington Beach then descending in the direction of the perimeter of the coast, where it gets stuck amidst palm groves and a set of stairs close to the coastal road.
Rescue Operation Information
The Huntington Beach fire department said five people were taken to hospital comprising two individuals who were in the aircraft and were “safely pulled from the wreckage” after the crash on the weekend.
Three individuals on the road were injured. Details on their injuries were not immediately available.
What led to the incident was still under investigation.
Planned Function
The department indicated the aircraft was linked to an annual “Cars and Copters” charity gathering planned for Sunday.
